CARLSBAD CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2018 GRANTS AVAILABLE

November 7, 2017 – San Diego, CA – Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, today announced its annual call for grant applications. In its 11th grant cycle, CCF invites nonprofit organizations and agencies to submit proposals for projects that provide health and human services with an emphasis on stopping the cycle of poverty and homelessness for individuals, youth and families in Carlsbad. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development 2017 Point-in-Time Count, homelessness has increased 5 percent in San Diego County over the past year, with more than 9,000 San Diegans living on the streets or in shelters. The CCF grant cycle aims to be part of the regional solution by supporting programs that give Carlsbad residents the necessary tools to avoid or move out of homelessness. The Shoppes at Carlsbad’s Renovation

In 2015 New York City-based developer had purchased the Westfield Carlsbad mall for $170 million and will rename it The Shoppes at Carlsbad.  Rouse Properties said it purchased the 1.1 million-square-foot mall to restore its standing in the community and complete a multimillion-dollar renovation started by Westfield. Westfield Group had planned to remove the mall’s roof to turn it into an open-air shopping center. The New Gateway to Carlsbad – Carlsbad Sign Lighting The Carlsbad sign lighting was a big hit.  Carlsbad’s newly installed gateway sign didn’t literally stop traffic, but it did wow plenty of passers-by who stopped to admire the new landmark and snap photos with their cell phones. The sign, which spans Carlsbad Boulevard near Carlsbad Village Drive, was inspired by a similar archway that stood in the area in the 1930s. The sign is the brainchild of Carlton Lund, a real estate agent and former chairman of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. He said he got the idea 14 years ago when he attended the dedication of Encinitas’ gateway sign. “The day after, I started the campaign,” Lund said. “It was part of my Midwest roots, where every town has a sign.
